Plastic Is Falling From the Sky. But Where’s It Coming From?
According to new modeling, 1,100 tons of microplastic – particles smaller than 5 millimeters – is currently floating above the western US. Particles from synthetic clothing and degrading bottles are moving with such regularity that it’s difficult to pinpoint the source of a particular polymer. Slowly, researchers are developing a clearer picture of how these particles are cycling all over the planet.
